Every Monday we start reading a new book. First, they observe the front page and I encourage the children to guess what the story is about. Then I read the story and they follow the reading with me. After we check all the new words we read it again one by one and then the whole class together reads it again. Then students answer comprehension questions. Along the week we learnt through different activities, all related to this story. For example, we worked on a story report were the children identify the title of the story, the characters, setting and they were able to give their opinions about their favourite part. The children also practiced writing the vocabulary words and spelling them. We played games in groups unscrambling words to form sentences and we also played on the board reading the words learnt in class. This was a lot of fun. Children show a lot of enthusiasm during these activities and best of all they are learning to read at the same time.
